The 2013 DoGooder Video Awards

Presented by See3 Communications, YouTube and the Nonprofit Technology Network

Generously Sponsored by Cisco

See3 Communications, the leader in online video for nonprofits, and YouTube, the world’s largest online video community along with the Nonprofit Technology Network, announced today the launch of the 2013 DoGooder Video Awards. The DoGooder Awards recognize the creative and effective use of video in promoting social good. Cisco, a global leader in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), is generously contributing $3500 to four contest winners. Cisco combines human and technology networks to multiply its impact on people, communities, and the planet. In addition to prizes provided by Cisco, contest winners will be featured on the YouTube homepage and receive free registration to the Nonprofit Technology Conference, the signature event hosted by the Nonprofit Technology Network (NTEN). Finally, the winners will see their videos (and their message) featured on the hugely popular YouTube Spotlight Channel on April 12th.

Now in its 7th year, the DoGooder Awards program is dedicated to giving those cause advocates that use video a place for their work to shine. This year, the program is excited to open up participation to include both individuals and nonprofit organizations that use video to promote the causes they are passionate about.

“We are excited to present another year of the DoGooder Video Awards. The use of video by nonprofits continues to grow and it's great that we get to highlight the important and innovative work being done,” said Michael Hoffman, CEO of See3 Communications. “New categories in this year's contest are recognizing video's direct role in creating impact, and we will be honoring the individual video-makers who tell stories and do good by making a difference for a cause. We are grateful for the continued support of YouTube and to partner again with Cisco and NTEN, who are invested in the success of the nonprofit sector.”

Jessica Mason, Manager at YouTube for Good, points to the paradigm shift in cause communications driven by video, saying: "today, organizations can broadcast for free, anytime, and even live on their very own YouTube channel. As a result, the traditional public service announcement is evolving. We're seeing more engaging, informative, and interactive videos that promote great causes. This year's DoGooder Awards reflect this evolution, with categories that celebrate humorous videos and videos by individuals.YouTube is committed to helping more people and nonprofit organizations reach global audiences with important messages and is thrilled that the DoGooder Awards are back for the seventh year to honor those changing their communities and changing the world through online video."

For a second year in a row, Cisco has provided outstanding sponsorship and prizes to award winners. “Cisco, as a responsible corporation, understands it plays a role in helping to address social and environmental challenges,” said Kathy Mulvany, Senior Director of Corporate Affairs at Cisco. “The good news is that today, billions of people are better connected, better informed, and more empowered than at any time in history. The DoGooder Awards recognizes innovative organizations that are taking advantage of this connectivity to multiply their impact, and inspires others to harness the power of technology and human networks to solve the world’s largest and most difficult issues.”

Beginning March 4th, video submissions will be accepted via the contest website until March 22, 2013, in the following categories:

The ImpactX Award: honoring those videos that have demonstrated impact for their causes.

The Best Nonprofit Video Award: honoring nonprofit organizations using video to make change.

The Funny for Good Award: Recognizing effective use of comedy to make people laugh and take action.

The Change Agent Award: For the best video created by one of those individuals who felt called to pick up the camera and speak out for an issue.

Members of the YouTube community will have the opportunity to vote for the best among the finalists from March 25 through April 5, 2013.

The winning videos in each category will be featured on YouTube’s coveted Spotlight Channel, receive a free registration to next year’s Nonprofit Technology Conference and will be recognized at the Nonprofit Technology Conference in Minneapolis on April 12, 2013. The winners in each category will receive $3,500 from Cisco to help them harness the power of human and technology networks to multiply their impact on the people and communities they serve.

Over the years the DoGooder Video Awards has awarded thousands of dollars in grants and prizes to support the work of organizations doing good. Last year, 1,200 entries were submitted from over 600 nonprofit organizations, with winning videos from Protect Our Defenders, Fonkoze, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and others.
